Igniting our Economy: KIRA Awards Celebrate 20 Years of New Brunswick Innovation

Innovation is both exciting and critical to our economic fabric. Embracing innovation will not only lead to pathways for growth, but it will also position us to compete on the global stage. This year, Fredericton will be hosting the 20th annual Knowledge and Innovation Recognition Awards (KIRA) on May 3rd, at the Fredericton Convention Centre, in celebration of innovative excellence across various sectors in New Brunswick. Recognizing the importance of innovation begs the question of “what exactly is innovation?” and “are we innovative?

Jamie Means Business


Originally from New Brunswick's historically-rich port city, Jamie is a Saint Johner turned Frederictonian due to her passion for business and love for Fredericton's small town feel and sense of community. Having previously worked with the Government of New Brunswick as the Premier's Executive Assistant, Jamie quickly developed a taste for economic development and decided to pursue a continued career of creating positive impact in the community that she proudly calls home. Jamie found herself immediately drawn to the collaborative and innovative business culture that Fredericton is so widely known for, and eagerly accepted a position as Ignite Fredericton's new Business Intelligence Coordinator. Jamie comes to us from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Finance and Business Administration. Chris, a Homegrown Talent


A Frederictonian by birth, Chris McGinn chose to stay close to his roots in pursuit of his Bachelor of Business Administration the University of New Brunswick, one of the leading and most entrepreneurial universities in the country. Offering world-class programs and degrees in over 60 disciplines, the university is a known breeding ground for talent and innovation. Chris found his way to Ignite Fredericton through a unique partnership developed between the Export Igniter program, and the Faculty of Business Administration. As an eager undergraduate, Chris was paired with a high-growth startup to gain real world experience and to assist the company in conducting extensive market research, lead generation, and the creation of an export strategy. Already familiar with the business landscape, and having been praised for his dedication and passion by those in the program, Chris was a great addition to our team here at Ignite Fredericton:
