Population growth is closely interlinked with the attainment of economic growth. An increase in the size of population enlarges the scope of investment and the production base of an economy Alike, population growth increases the supply of labour. It is important for Fredericton to continue to attract and retain its population as we are facing the dawn of an aging population, as well as a significant decrease in birth rates —an aspect that raises tremendous concern about filling the jobs of the future and sparking innovative output.

With this, Ignite Fredericton would like to welcome Nausheen Ali, our new Population Growth Specialist, who will lead the population growth file of Fredericton fostering our city to continue to be a great place to grow and locate.

What’s your story?

I came from Pakistan, a part of the developing world which is mostly known through the lens of international news. I was born and raised in Karachi and then moved to Islamabad hoping to get a taste of the capital city lifestyle— an exciting and fulfilling journey full of experiences. After pursuing my MBA, I associated myself with diverse organizations in which I occupied a variety of roles, all adding to my professional growth. The most worth mentioning here is a technology startup, which grew into a successful business within five years. I have also led a startup of my own, a fruit of the entrepreneurial streak in me. Apart from work, I have volunteered as part of a support group helping vulnerable communities in my country. Volunteering has been the most rewarding aspect of my life. Taking life as it comes, now I am all set to explore what Canada has in store for me.

Being a family person and a mother of two, I love spending time with my family and in my kitchen. I love to cook, read and go on long walks. Meeting people and making new friends is another thing I enjoy. When I am not working or doing any of these (which is very rare), you will find me being a couch potato in front of the TV.

What makes you the perfect fit for this role?

I have the experience and the professional knowledge required to fulfill my role at Ignite. Being an immigrant myself, I carry a lot of insight about the hard and soft elements of the immigration process. The hard elements being safety, economic stability, settlement, health, and education. The soft elements being acceptance, inclusion, cultural integration, and adaptation. I understand the significance of a collaborative approach by all relevant stakeholders for a city to be prepared to welcome and embrace newcomers. Hence, I believe this role is a perfect fit for my aspirations.

Why did you choose Fredericton?

Being provincial nominees in the Business stream, our research suggested Fredericton be the most lucrative location for our kind of business. After landing, my family never once regretted this decision. Fredericton is welcoming, beautiful, and just the right blend of being peaceful and lively at the same time. In short, we’re here to stay.

What are the things that make you unique?

I am a go-getter. Action is my keyword and I never let doubts or pretention get in my way to achieve what I want. I take responsibility for my actions and for the outcomes of my decisions, and this is what makes me unique.
